English Enrichment Program

Our English Enrichment Program is founded on the primacy of literacy and language arts for success both in the classroom and beyond. Offering support at Junior and Senior levels, our program complements and supports the Ontario Curriculum, the British Columbia’s curriculum and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) curriculum while enriching individual student experience. Through the integration of learning objectives of the Reading, Writing, and Oral Communication strands in the curricula with our programming, students are ensured that they are meeting and exceeding set standards while pursuing individualized modes of exploration and learning.

Program Description

Junior and Intermediate English Enrichment Program (Grades 1-8)

The Junior and Intermediate English Program specializes in the needs of students in grades 1 – 8. This period of development is unique as students begin to build the foundations for increasingly complex analytical skills and modes of expression. Through our comprehensive program, students engage in several important activities. Students focus on reading both to understand and retain information, on vocabulary building, and on practicing the steps that lead to clear writing and self-expression.

Employing a learner-centred approach together with traditional teaching methods, the program is tailored to the needs of each student while providing the necessary structure and support for the Ontario, British Columbia, and IB curricula. With an understanding of literacy and language arts as the crucial building blocks for success both within the classroom and beyond, our program both adheres to provincial guidelines and enriches the individual student’s learning experience. Meaningful homework exercises, on-going detailed and personalized feedback, as well as open communication with parents and guardians regarding student process and progress, are all essential components of our comprehensive program.

Through the methods of our experienced teachers and our tailor-made approach, the Junior English Program consistently works to create and generate interest, enthusiasm, and self-confidence in young students.

Intermediate & Senior English Enrichment Program (Grades 9-12)

The Senior English Enrichment Program is designed for students from grades 9 to 12 who want a course that supplements what they are learning in school. Our enrichment program extracts specific learning objectives directly from the the Ontario Curriculum, the British Columbia’s curriculum and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) curriculum. It is rooted in the Reading, Writing, and Oral Communication strands. This ensures that the programming at Brainy Education complements the English syllabuses in secondary schools.

The program is divided into two semesters: the first semester focuses on the foundations of English (i.e. grammar, literary devices, literary analysis, poetry, short stories) and as we move into the second semester, the focus shifts to writing (i.e. structured paragraphs, essays, analyses). Students will interact with a variety of texts, participate in two literature studies throughout the course of the program, and engage in various activities and lessons to build upon vocabulary skills. The program is challenging, but rewarding. It encourages students to think and interact with texts creatively and critically in order to prepare them for post-secondary and beyond.
